You know, I don't think I've ever really finished a personal artwork in my
life. I get halfway, and get bored. One of my beefs with Rent is the guy who won't work a job that pays the rent because he's an "artist," but spends all his time being depressed that he can't write songs. If you're not creating art, bottom line is, you're not an artist. Lately I've had to fess up to the fact that while I am a creative person, and will take that quality to everything I do, I'm no artist. I can draw, I just don't do it enough to qualify by my own terms.

The other thing that bugs me is how the artists in RENT pretend to be poor. Poverty means not having choices. It doesn't mean choosing to live in squalor because you think you're artistic sensibilities are too delicate to work at the local greasy spoon. The artists think because they're "rebels," and want to see the world differently, that the world owes them some kind of big freaking favor as visionaries, like being loved for who they are, or supported by the poor blinded common stiffs who aren't too good for work. If any one of those artists could see outside themselves they'd realize they've already been granted the big favor- a first wolrd limited edition chance to live as they choose, with the majority of the world's wealth and freedoms at their disposal.
I know this is no excuse, but at least when I'm being an apathetic sh*thead indulging in escapism, I still recognize there are bigger problems than my own.

Wow, I sound grumpy. I'm not grumpy. Mmm, maybe I was grumpy when I wrote that, but that was a while ago, only I haven't been able to access my account since. Anway, I hope everyone had a good St Paddy's and wish everyone a good Easter hols.
